Cottage Garden planting Surrey

Award-winning garden in Ashtead, Surrey

A luscious garden designed by Christine Wilford and built by us. In 2018 it was awarded a BALI award for domestic garden construction between £100K and £250K.

The house had recently been built and had the hallmarks of the usual developer landscaping, with plants in the wrong place, poorly laid paving and compacted soil.

Having won the tender we worked with the client and Christine the designer to achieve the finished scheme. We reused some of the Indian paving slabs for the rear terrace and made changes to the levels at the rear and side to include a small Purbeck wall and steps.

We de-compacted the whole area and dug trench’s for the new lighting and irrigation, we installed the irrigation and worked with a nominated electrician for the lighting.

Importation of new topsoil that resulted in new contouring to the current levels was essential, along with large amounts of organic matter for all the beds and borders.

Christine supplied the plants and we planted these along with bulbs for the spring. The garden had easy access and was a straight forward pleasurable build that has developed well with a great use of sculpture in the garden.
